Reffy

Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-06-10

Reffy is a casual match-rotation and score-tracking app for 2-team activities. By downloading, accessing, or using Reffy, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. These terms are written in plain English; they are general information, not legal advice.

Who can use Reffy

You must be at least 13 years old to use Reffy. In some regions, including parts of the European Economic Area, the minimum age is 16 under local data-protection law (such as GDPR Article 8). By using Reffy you confirm you meet the minimum age that applies where you live, and that any information you provide is accurate. If you are under the applicable minimum age, do not use the app or create an account.

Local-first use, no account required

Reffy is local-first. You can set up sessions, auto-pair teams, record scores, and track ELO ratings entirely on your device with no account and no internet connection. When you are signed out, nothing leaves your device. All cloud features described below are optional and opt-in.

You are responsible for the sessions, scores, player names, groups, and exports you create in Reffy. The app is not a tournament authority, referee, or official ranking service, and its results carry no official standing.

Your account

Creating an account is optional. If you choose to, you sign in passwordlessly: Reffy emails a one-time six-digit code (or magic link) to the address you provide, delivered through our email provider. There is no password. We collect your email address to sign you in and to identify your account.

Cloud backup and sync

If you sign in and enable cloud features, Reffy backs up and synchronizes your gameplay data — players, sessions, rounds, games and scores, ELO ratings, and player groups — across your devices through our cloud provider. A few things to understand:

Profiles, handles, and discovery

You may create a profile with a @handle, a display name, and an optional avatar (a color, an emoji, or a photo from your camera or photo library). You choose whether your profile is public or private. When public, your handle, display name, avatar, and aggregated rating and stats are world-readable and may appear in discovery, search, and follower/following lists. Private profiles are not discoverable. You can change your profile back to private, or edit or remove these details, at any time in the app.

Acceptable use and code of conduct

When using any social or public surface of Reffy, you agree not to:

We may remove content, reclaim or rename handles, and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that we reasonably believe create risk for other users or for Reffy. Where practical we will act proportionately, but we may act immediately when needed to protect people or the service.

Your content and the license you grant

You keep ownership of the content you create in Reffy, including profile details and any avatar photo you upload from your camera or photo library. By making content public or sharing it through Reffy, you confirm that:

If you believe content on Reffy infringes your rights or violates these terms, email hello@playreffy.com and we will review it and take down content where appropriate.

Third-party data you enter

Reffy lets you enter information about other people — player names, scores, and results for everyone in your sessions. You, not Reffy, are responsible for the third-party data you enter. When you enable cloud backup, sync, or sharing, this data may be stored in the cloud and, through clubs or public profiles, visible to others. You confirm you have any necessary permission to enter and share information about other people, and you agree to honor reasonable requests from them to correct or remove it.

Social features

Reffy includes an optional social graph:

Following or befriending someone never gives you control over their data and never attaches their gameplay data to your account.

Clubs and shared rosters

A club is a shared roster that co-hosts maintain together. If you join or co-host a club:

Termination and account deletion

You may stop using Reffy at any time. You can delete your cloud account from Settings → Account → Delete account (a two-step confirmation). Account deletion is immediate and permanent, and is cloud-only: it removes your authentication record, cloud backups, your uploaded avatar photo, and cascaded cloud rows, but it does not erase the data stored locally on your device. To remove the local data, delete the app from your device. Shared club data and content already copied by others may persist as described above.

We may suspend or terminate your account or access to cloud features if you violate these terms, if required by law, or to protect users or the service. We may also discontinue cloud features. If we terminate your access without cause, you can still use Reffy locally and keep your on-device data.

No warranty

Reffy is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind. It may contain bugs and change over time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, perfect scoring or rating outcomes, that backups will succeed, that synced devices will be instantly or perfectly consistent, that any free cloud feature will remain available, or compatibility with every device or activity format. Your local on-device data remains the authoritative copy, and you are responsible for keeping your own exports if you need a durable record. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, Reffy’s maintainers are not liable for losses related to use of the app, including lost scores, incorrect ratings, sync delays or failures, or deleted local or backed-up data. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of these limits may not apply to you.

Privacy and service providers

Our handling of your data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. Cloud features rely on third-party processors — including Supabase (authentication, database, object storage for backups and avatar photos, and real-time sync, hosted in Oceania, Sydney, region ap-southeast-2), Resend (delivery of the one-time sign-in code email, sent from noreply@playreffy.com), Expo (push notifications for live game rooms, which receives device push tokens and the notification content — including other players’ names — to deliver round alerts), GitHub Pages (hosting for this website), and Cloudflare (domain DNS and inbound contact email). Because these services are hosted in Australia, using cloud features may involve an international transfer of your data depending on where you are located. See the privacy policy for details.

Governing law

Reffy is offered to users worldwide. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, these terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them are governed by the laws of the country — and, where relevant, the state or province — in which you reside, and any proceedings may be brought in the courts of that place.

Nothing in these terms removes or limits the mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your home jurisdiction. Those rights always apply to you regardless of anything stated here, and where local law requires a particular governing law or forum for consumers, that local requirement prevails.

Changes

These terms may be updated as Reffy changes. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice — for example, in the app, on this page, or by email — before they take effect. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the updated terms.
